John Pautz of American Switch & Signal (whose P48 turnout castings I’ve used extensively) sent me this handy tip for using the slip-on joint bars from Right O’ Way Products.

Rail web and base filed away.

John advises filing away a portion of the web and base of each rail before slipping on the joint bar casting (photo above). This allows the rail heads to come together as they should when seen from the top (photo below), eliminating that often seen ugly gap.

Rail heads come together easily now.
